About the Strap:

This strap is a monster, redesigned specifically for the bold proportions of Panerai Luminor timepieces. Crafted from premium chrome-tanned hide selected for its rugged durability and unique texture, this leather originates from Mexico—a region with a storied heritage in world-class tanning.

The character of this hide is exceptional: the top side features a dynamic texture that shifts between deep chocolate and light tobacco browns, while the flanks provide a striking golden-brown contrast. Despite its formidable appearance, the leather possesses a soft temper, ensuring it conforms to your wrist almost immediately and allows for effortless adjustment.

To match the historic aesthetic of the Luminor, I’ve tailored this strap with a consistent 24mm width running from lug to buckle. It features a significant “torpedo” point and is stitched with high-tensile, heavy-gauge cream colored French thread. I’ve utilized a traditional boxed pattern with tight stitch spacing, which demands more time on the bench but delivers a superior, high-end aesthetic.

Fit and Dimensions

At a thickness of 4.2mm (roughly 1.7mm thicker than a standard OEM strap), volume is a factor. The golden rule for thick straps is to size up: if you typically wear a 120/70mm, I recommend ordering a 125/75mm. The strap photographed for my personal collection measures 135/80mm. Additional Information: The 44mm Panerai Luminor is the workhorse of the Panerai lineup. Therefore, it offers the most flexibility for aftermarket strap creation. Larger 47mm cases often require thicker builds. In contrast, the 44mm Luminor works with different strap thicknesses, including modern takes on Panerai Pre-V straps.

When selecting thread and spacing, I consider both the leather’s thickness and temper. This way, I ensure comfort, balance, and durability. Most 24mm straps for 44mm Luminor models use a vintage-style Panerai pin buckle.

However, many straps in this section also feature alternative buckle options in the drop-down menus. My design approach includes dual wide keepers, box stitching, and thickness between 3.5 and 5.5mm. As a result, these features reflect the traditional proportions of Panerai Pre-V straps.

All 24mm straps for 44mm cases are 24/24mm without taper. By comparison, I reserve tapering for Radiomir models. For Luminor, I prefer longer buckle sides and shorter bottom sides. This creates visual balance and secure wrist fit. Stitching margins are thinner than on 47mm straps, consistent with Panerai Pre-V straps.

Finally, I craft every strap by hand using the same tools from my two decades as a boot maker. Each strap is unique.
