Description
About the Strap: This is another strap for enthusiasts. I carefully selected this leather based on it’s thickness and water resistant properties. At 3.0mm thick, this soft strap comfortably conforms to the wrist from the first time your wear it. For this build, I selected a high tensile strength French thread that is one tone lighter than the leather but in the same color family. This allows a great deal of flexibility when matching it to various cases and dials.
This strap is subtle, but aficionados will appreciate the unique color and historically accurate cut down to the keeper width, buckle hole spacing and positioning. The design features a single floating keeper, a sewn buckle, and classic circular buckle pin holes. The width is 24mm throughout. The edges are hand burnished to a uniform smooth finish. The perimeter of the strap features a fine crease.
As with all pre-V style straps, by default the strap is going to wear big. This is a function of the holes being positioned beyond halfway down the length of the strap. The original pre-Vendome straps were designed like this because it was assumed the client would be wearing it on the outside of a wet suit for diving purposes. As a result, you can see many early Panerai straps where the owner has punched additional holes to allow them to fit on bare wrists as opposed to over wet suits. We can adjust for this design feature by shortening the buckle side of the strap, negating the need to punch additional holes. Alternatively, I can adjust the hole positioning by request.
If you have questions about fitment, please send me your wrist size and I will consult with you regarding the final measurements. The strap is pictured above with an optional engraved buckle, but comes by default with a black curved pin buckle. You may selection from additional options using the drop down menu. *Please note that the default original pre-V length of 144/84 will be extremely long for most wrist sizes, and would require you to punch additional holes unless you intend to wear the watch over a set suit.

Additional Information: The 44mm Panerai Luminor is the workhorse of the Panerai lineup. Therefore, it offers the most flexibility for aftermarket strap creation. Larger 47mm cases often require thicker builds. In contrast, the 44mm Luminor works with different strap thicknesses, including modern takes on Panerai Pre-V straps.
When selecting thread and spacing, I consider both the leather’s thickness and temper. This way, I ensure comfort, balance, and durability. Most 24mm straps for 44mm Luminor models use a vintage-style Panerai pin buckle.
However, many straps in this section also feature alternative buckle options in the drop-down menus. My design approach includes dual wide keepers, box stitching, and thickness between 3.5 and 5.5mm. As a result, these features reflect the traditional proportions of Panerai Pre-V straps.
All 24mm straps for 44mm cases are 24/24mm without taper. By comparison, I reserve tapering for Radiomir models. For Luminor, I prefer longer buckle sides and shorter bottom sides. This creates visual balance and secure wrist fit. Stitching margins are thinner than on 47mm straps, consistent with Panerai Pre-V straps.
Finally, I craft every strap by hand using the same tools from my two decades as a boot maker. Each strap is unique.
